Different Types of Cargo

Before you continue on reading this article, try to remember the first time you have tried air freight here in the Philippines. It could probably be you being the sender or the receiver. One way or another, you may have experienced it or benefited from it sometimes without you even knowing.

To shed some light into that, let’s deep dive on the different types of air cargo.

  1. General Cargo. These are items that do not need any special handling or conditions for it to be delivered safely. It should not also be perishable as it may take longer for it to arrive at the destination point such as clothing and other retail goods.

  2. Special Cargo. These are the items that should be handled with care. These items need special handling in terms of temperature control, packaging, documentation and labeling and sometimes even permits. Under the special cargo lies subcategories that would qualify for special handling.

  • Temperature Controlled. Cargo that requires control in temperature are food, medicines, beverages, etc. As these items are perishable and prone to spoilage, temperature must be controlled all throughout its transport.

  • Live Animals. Many animals are sensitive and uncomfortable during transport and this kind of stress may affect their health and well-being. Thus, it is important that live animals are transported safely and as comfortably as possible.

  • Hazardous Cargo. Flammable, poisonous items should always be labeled, packaged and loaded properly. The transport of these items is risky on its own and not handling it with precaution could greatly put the passengers and crew at risk. There is no room for mistakes when handling this type of cargo.

  • Human Remains and/or Organs. Unfortunately, death could happen anywhere in the world and strange as it may sound, some corpses still need to be transported to bring home to their mourning families. Some organs for study or transplants also get transported. Needless to say, these are handled with utmost care and precaution as well.

We can not take our place closer to our loved ones literally but sending/receiving cargos makes us feel like it. May it be for our business or personal use, it serves its purpose, to bring us closer to where these items should be. We want nothing but the best and that also applies to our cargo. It really pays off to have the best air freight service provider here in the Philippines!
